Williams powers Sunbirds to third straight win

Box Score

Morghan Williams had 16 kills and a .483 attack percentage to lead a balanced attack as Fresno Pacific defeated Dominican 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-21) for its third straight win.

The Sunbirds (14-11, 9-9 PacWest) also got 12 kills from Rupia Inck and 11 apiece from Rebecca Waller and Jessie Alcorn. Waller finished with a .320 attack percentage. Bissie DenHartog dished out 44 assists and Hannah Butler added 22 digs.

"Morghan has been much more aggressive lately," said head coach Kelly Winter. "She's really come on strong in the last few matches. Our hitters were pretty consistent all around and that makes our setter's job easier when everyone is on. We're looking to learn from every opportunity we get and it was good to see the team close out set three the way they did tonight, after giving up a two-set lead and going to five with Holy Names on Saturday."

Kelsey Lardner posted a double-double of 30 assists and 10 digs to lead the Penguins (10-18, 7-11 PacWest).

FPU overcame 12 service errors in the win, out-hitting the Penguins .260 to .165.

The Sunbirds are back in action at home tomorrow night as they take on Academy of Art at 7 pm. FPU swept the Urban Knights last week in San Francisco.

"We played really well and had great chemistry when we played them on Friday," said Winter. "But they're a great team and they play up to their opponent so we're expecting a tough match."
