Sunbirds finish Gary Troyer Invite 1-3

An early first-quarter lead wasn't enough to overcome No. 19 George Washington as the Sunbirds fell just short of defeating a top-20 in a 14-12 loss. FPU also fell to Pomona-Pitzer 11-6 on the final day of the Gary Troyer Invitational.

Daniel Seymour led the way for FPU against GW scoring five goals in the loss, scoring the first two goals and giving the Sunbirds a one-goal lead over the Colonials. Joseph Gravely extended the lead to 3-1 before GW closed the quarter out on a three-goal run to take the lead. The Sunbird hung tough tying the match three times through the remainder, but each time FPU knotted it up the Colonials answered back.

Gravely and David Maes each scored twice in the loss and Steven Kaufmann and Stephen Chafi scored once. Maes and Seymour also scored twice against host Pomona-Pitzer in an 11-6 loss to close out the Sunbirds Gary Troyer Invite.

"We're disappointed with the end result of today," said head coach Bryan Suhovy. "We had a couple of well fought games against strong teams, but couldn't finish our opportunities. Against Pomona-Pitzer we shot 24-percent and that has to improve. We are adjusting well, creating opportunities and stay very competitive against ranked teams. We just need to capitalize on those opportunities now."

Fresno Pacific will host an alumni match on October 19 before resuming regular season play at home against California Baptist on Senior Night.
