San Rafael, Calif. - Rupia Inck had 16 kills to go with a .500 attack percentage and Fresno Pacific had nine service aces as the Sunbirds swept Dominican 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 on Saturday night to improve to 13-1 on the season, 5-0 in PacWest play.
The NCAA Division II #25 Sunbirds, winners of 12 straight, moved into sole possession of first place in the PacWest while dropping the Penguins to 3-2 in league play.
Inck had just one error on the night, leading a Sunbird team that hit .257 on the night while emptying its bench to give experience to many of its younger players.
FPU's serving game was too much for the Penguins to handle. At one point in set two, FPU led 11-0 with
Mikayla Tucker doing the serving.
Kathleen Anderson finished with three service aces in just one set played.
"Our serving was outstanding tonight," said head coach
Kelly Winter. "We played steady and didn't let up. It was a good all-around team win."
Emily Carroll led the team with 21 assists,
Erica Adachi added 15.
Hannah Butler, the PacWest's leader in digs per set, had 16 digs on the night.
Morghan Williams had seven kills on the night while
Jessie Alcorn added five. Becca Waller came off the bench and did an impressive job of blocking and finishing with a .600 attack percentage.
FPU held Dominican to .082 hitting on the night, including a negative .088 percentage in set two.
The Sunbirds host Hawaii Hilo (3-9, 3-3 PWC) on Tuesday night. The match can be watched for free on fpuathletics.com.
"We've started to increase our practice time," said Winter. "This month we had a heavy load of matches but now we've upped our practice plans and are gearing up for some high-level volleyball ahead. We need to be at our best late in the season."
