Fresno Pacific went 1-1 on the opening day of the Lancer Invitational coming back to defeat Occidental after falling to No. 20 Concordia earlier in the day.
The Sunbirds were unable to mount any sort of consistent offense against the Eagles who jumped out to a 9-2 lead at halftime.
Jake Finney did all he could in goal recording 11 saves in the match, but Concordia's offense was too strong for FPU.
Matt Boogaard led the way for FPU in scoring with two goals. Daniel Seymour, Zlatko Vlasic and Ian Roos each scored one goal in the loss.
"After a 5 1/2 hour drive getting in for our first game was tough," said head coach Bryan Suhovy. "We came out flat and slow and it showed. Concordia took the lead early and we jut couldn't finish any of the opportunities we created."
The Sunbirds bounced back in the second match against Occidental dominating the Tigers 19-10 to move to 8-2 on the season.
Finney was in fine form again stopping 14 shots in the win for the Sunbirds.
Vlasic led the way in scoring for Fresno Pacific with four goals followed by Roos and Andreas Sahlberg who had three apiece.
Sascha Ludwig, Ross Cochran and Glenn Lyon each poured in two goals while Seymour, Brian Xicotencatl and Daniel Shunichev scored one.
"The guys came out looking to redeem themselves," said Suhovy. "From the first whistle to the last they played with intensity. Finney was once again big for us in goal with the 15 saves and it was nice to finish the day on a positive note."
The Sunbirds are back in action at the invitational tomorrow morning at 8:30 am when they take on LaVerne followed by a matchup with Chapman at 2:45 pm.
