Sunbirds topple Chaminade for 11th straight win

Box Score

Fresno Pacific made quick work of visiting Chaminade on Wednesday night, sweeping the Silverswords 25-13, 25-23 and 25-20 to improve to 4-0 in PacWest play and 12-1 on the season.

The Sunbirds had a chance to showcase their depth, resting outside hitter Rupia Inck and other starters after last night's five-set exhibition at Fresno State. Rising to the occasion was Lyndsie Petersen who led the team with nine kills and a .350 attack percentage. Mikayla Tucker added eight kills and eight digs, one of four freshmen who shined for the Sunbirds.

"We got some fresh legs out there," said head coach Kelly Winter. "Lyndsie and Mikayla were our outsides tonight and they did an absolutely fabulous job. Karah and Rupia took a lot of swings last night so we decided to give them the night off."

FPU never trailed in the match and when it did get close, the Sunbirds leaned on Kathleen Anderson who went for eight kills and five blocks. Emily Carroll and Erica Adachi combined for 33 assists and Hannah Butler led the team with 14 digs and three aces.

The Sunbirds didn't seem out of sync at all with the switched up lineup, scoring early and often to overwhelm the Silversword defense. Anderson hammered a kill to start the match, Carroll followed with an impressive service ace and it would be all Sunbirds from there as the team coasted to the first set win outhitting CUH .320 to -.095.

The second set was more of the same as FPU built up a 18-11 lead but the Silverswords came storming back and would eventually tie it at 21-all. Anderson smashed home a ball across the middle as the Sunbirds regained the lead and FPU would take the set 25-23.

The Sunbirds then hit .324 in the third set to bring home the win. FPU hit .268 on the night compared to .139 for Chaminade. The Silverswords fell to 4-8, 1-3 in PacWest play.

FPU bounced back from a match last night that saw them commit 40 attack errors in their first ever loss to Fresno State. Tonight, the team finished with only 11 errors.

The Sunbirds travel to the Bay Area on Saturday to take on Dominican. The Penguins are 3-0 in PacWest play.
