Sunbirds storm into Dixie State to claim 3-1 win

Box Score

Fresno Pacific traveled more than 500 miles and played without its top player but the Sunbirds would overwhelm Dixie State on its home court in Utah in what counted as a non-conference match.

FPU (8-1) started three freshmen, as Kathleen Anderson sat out the match due to injury, and the Sunbirds responded with a convincing 3-1 win in a hostile road environment (25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20).

"I'm really proud of our girls," said head coach Kelly Winter. "They played great, stuck to the gameplan and executed really well. There are a couple of things we need to clean up but overall we played consistent and got better as a team tonight."

Rupia Inck led four Sunbirds with double digit kills, finishing with 14. Karah Mitchell added 12 while Jessie Alcorn and Erica Adachi had 10 apiece. Alcorn was on all night, hitting a sizzling .471 to lead the team in attack percentage.

Emily Carroll led the team with 28 assists and Hannah Butler had 24 digs. Adachi had 20 assists and nine digs, finishing one dig short of a triple-double. Inck earned herself a double-double with 11 digs. Morghan Williams filled in admirably for Anderson at middle blocker, finishing with five blocks and five kills.

The Sunbirds now head south, turning their attention to undefeated NCAA #12 Grand Canyon. FPU will take on the 10-0 Antelopes in Phoenix on Saturday night.
