FPU led by three at one point, using a 10-0 run to go up 22-19 in the first half. The Mustangs would take a 36-30 lead into the locker room however and would open up the second half on an 18-9 run to go ahead 54-39 with 12:30 to play.
Coach Chris Wright called timeout to regather his team, and they responded by scoring the next seven unanswered points. The Sunbirds trimmed the lead to 63-60 in the final minute after
Antonio Credit finished on an and-one play on the pass from Bradford, but the Mustangs knocked down two free throws before a Sunbird miss made the rest of the game irrelevant.
FPU now heads south for games against Cal State San Marcos on Thursday and Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday. The matchup with San Marcos will feature the Sunbirds against former FPU head coach Jim Saia in a non-conference game. The Cougars, playing in their first season of collegiate basketball, have a talented team led by former Fresno State starter Tim Steed.
