Fresno Pacific faced another tough task on Sunday, going up against an NCAA D1 top-10 program as well as the highest rated team in NCAA D3. The Sunbirds put up a good fight, but came up short against #9 Long Beach State 20-7 and #1 (D3) Pomona-Pitzer 17-13.

Evan Baird led the Sunbirds with three goals in the first game and Riley Warner made 12 saves but the Sunbirds couldn't keep up with the 49ers.

The second game though, FPU would show itself more than capable of taking on a top program. The Sunbirds led 4-3 after the first quarter of play, but fell behind 8-6 at the half. FPU would continually threaten, but Pomona-Pitzer was able to maintain the small lead.

Baird and Glen Lyon led FPU with five goals apiece.

The Sunbirds (0-4) leave Irvine without a win, but gained valuable experience playing against four nationally ranked opponents. The schedule does not get any easier, but the Sunbirds will have the advantage of playing at home for their next game.

FPU plays #17 UC Davis on Friday at 3:30 pm at Clovis West High School.
