#15 UC Davis (1-1) handed Fresno Pacific (0-5) its fifth loss of the season at the Clovis West Aquatics Complex on Friday. The Aggies, the first ranked team to play FPU at home, controlled the game, in spite of a brief Sunbird offensive effort in the second quarter, pulling away to a 16-5 victory.
Stephen Chafi and Trevor Kolb led the team offensively, each with a pair of goals. Kolb's second goal was the only Sunbird score outside of the second quarter. Glenn Lyon added another goal from set. Other notables included Riley Warner, with five blocks in goal, and freshman Ian Roos, with a solid overall performance, including an impressive five-meter draw.
Coach Bryan Suhovy expressed optimism for the upcoming season.
"The depth and power is there," he said. "We just need to start firing on all six cylinders. As the guys start playing together we're going to keep progressing. We're going to surprise some people this year."
The Sunbirds' next match is a doubleheader against American River College tomorrow at 11 am at Sunnyside High School.
