FPU volleyball comes back to beat Biola 3-1

Sunbirds wake up after first set loss then storm back to win

FRESNO, Calif. – No. 1 Fresno Pacific (13-0) improved to 3-0 in the Golden State Athletic Conference witrh a 3-1 victory over Biola on Tuesdday.

The Sunbirds were caught off guard early by No. 20 Biola (10-4, 1-2 GSAC) and dropped the first set, but  rebounded to win 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-12.

After having no kills in the opening set, Keke Wang came-on in the second set to lead the Sunbirds with 18 kills in the final three sets.  Michelle Johnson led with four kills in the first set, and finished with 14 kills to follow Wang.

Mariah Mandelbaum led with 25 digs while Erika Adachi contributed 32 assists.

Coach Dennis Janzen said: “Despite a slow start, I was pleased with how we took control of the match.  Everyone contributed.”

The Sunbirds continue conference play against Vanguard at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.
