Calif. - The
Fresno Pacific women's basketball team made it four wins in a row Tuesday night at FPU's
Special Event Center with a huge 62-55 victory over #13
Westmont College. The Sunbirds led the nationally ranked Warriors from the beginning to end, and showed that they can play with, and beat, the top teams in the GSAC.
“Tonight, the team proved that they really belong with the best in the conference,” applauded FPU head coach Meredith Pulliam. “I couldn't have asked for a better way to send out the seniors.”
The Sunbirds took down another nationally ranked team in #18 Azusa Pacific just last week and are now in a four-way tie for 5th place in the GSAC.
In tonight's contest, junior guard Jessica Mazza led the way for Fresno Pacific with 15 points, five assists, and five rebounds. Senior guard Bricali Cooley contributed for the Sunbirds scoring 12 points while dishing out five assists, and grabbing 5 rebounds. Sophomore forward Jessica Torrecillas put up 12 points as well and snatched a team high 7 rebounds.
“We went back to our bread and butter which is our defense and made some big plays when we needed to,” added Pulliam.
With the win, the Sunbirds improve to 13-12 overall, and are 9-9 in the GSAC. Next up, FPU will travel to face Concordia Saturday February 28th in Irvine, CA. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
