ATHERTON, CA. - The FPU women's basketball team tried to make it three wins in a row Wednesday evening as they faced host Menlo College in the Peninsula Classic tournament final. After a seesaw of a game that was tied six times, the Oaks defeated the Sunbirds 61-59 following a put-back converted by senior forward Kelli Brull with just 2 seconds left on the clock.

Brull's game winning shot came after she collected an offensive rebound following a missed attempt by teammate Senoj Jones.

While the Oaks celebrated Brull's basket, FPU's Michele Rebozzi was able to put up one last prayer for the Sunbirds and heaved a half-court shot as the buzzer sounded, but the attempt missed the mark and Menlo claimed the victory.

Fresno Pacific senior Jessica Mazza led the way for the Sunbirds with 18 points and 5 rebounds while going 7-11 from the field.

FPU junior forward Jessica Torrecillas also contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and freshman forward Brandi Blackwell was strong in the paint with 7 boards.

With the loss, the Sunbirds fall to 3-9 and will travel next to face California Baptist on Saturday, January 2nd in GSAC play. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
