FRESNO, CA. - "Finally!" was the response of FPU head coach
Meredith Pulliam following the Sunbirds' 68-43 win over CSU Maritime Monday evening at Fresno Pacific's Special Events Center.
Pulliam's relief comes in reference to the Sunbirds' recent five-game slide and this much-needed win.
"I thought we did a great job of controlling the tempo and taking advantage of our size difference. We played unselfish team basketball tonight," Pulliam added.
The orange and blue were determined from the opening whistle and jumped out to a 34-16 halftime lead after shooting 58.3% (14-24) from the field in the first period of play.
With the lead and momentum going into the second half, FPU never looked back and went on to claim the 25-point victory.
Junior forward
Jessica Torrecillas led the way for the Sunbirds with 18 points and was dominant in the paint grabbing 13 rebounds. Freshman forward
Brandi Blackwell also pitched in with 10 points on the night.
With the win, the Sunbirds improve to 2-9 on the season and will look to build off this solid performance.
