Volleyball finish GSAC-play flawless

Sunbirds defeat Westmont 3-0 to go 20-0 in GSAC

FRESNO, Calif. – No. 1 Fresno Pacific (31-0, 20-0 GSAC) closed out conference play appropriately with a nearly flawless match to go with their flawless conference record, 20-0.  The Sunbirds hit an amazing .478 to take down No. 25 Westmont (16-14, 7-13 GSAC) in three straight sets: 25-8, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Sunbirds only had nine errors in the entire match with 53 kills on 92 attempts.  Fresno Pacific hit .536 in the first set holding Westmont to only eight points.  Four Sunbirds hit over .500 for the match: Lindsay Foglio had four kills; Michelle Johnson had six kills; Tiffany Marinos had seven kills; and Keke Wang finished with 12 kills on 22 attempts and no errors.

Martina Gregusova also had 12 kills to lead the Sunbirds along with Wang.

Marinos led the Sunbirds with 11 digs followed by Mariah Mandelbaum with 10 digs.  Also defensively, Lauren Albertson was a part of all six of the Sunbirds' blocks.

“I was really happy with how we played today,” said coach Dennis Janzen, “We got everyone into the game, and everyone played well.  It was a great way to finish up the GSAC.”

However, the Sunbirds regular season is not over yet.  Before the National Tournament, the Sunbirds will face NCAA Div. I CSU Bakersfield for their final home match of the season.  CSU Bakersfield pushed the Sunbirds to five sets at Bakersfield earlier this season, but the Sunbirds will look for the home-crowd excitement to get them to finish their regular season undefeated for the second year in a row.  Fresno Pacific will take on Bakersfield on Thursday, November 19 at 7 p.m.
