SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – No. 1 Fresno Pacific (20-0, 10-0) gets another big win on the road as they defeat Westmont (12-8, 3-7 GSAC) in three sets, 25-10, 26-24, 25-22.
Martina Gregusova led the Sunbirds with 13 kills and 12 digs, along with two blocks. #Keke Wang# followed with 9 kills, but committed no errors on 15 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage.
Even though Lauren Albertson struggled offensively, she dominated defensively with eight total blocks. The Sunbirds had 13 for the match.
Coach Dennis Janzen said, “It was a great win on the road. We're showing improvement every match, but it's great to get a win along the way.”
The Sunbirds began the match nearly flawless with 11 kills and only 2 errors with a .409 hitting percentage. Even though Fresno Pacific's hitting fell each set finishing with 15 errors, the Sunbirds hit .257 for the entire match.
Fresno Pacific held Westmont to a .098 hitting percentage.
Next week the Sunbirds will travel to Bakersfield to take on valley rival CSU Bakersfield on the road. CSU Bakersfield is a NCAA DI squad that were the first to take the Sunbirds to a fifth set last season. The Sunbirds will take on the Roadrunners on Tuesday, October 13 at 7 p.m.
