FRESNO, Calif. – #1 Fresno Pacific (22-0, 14-0 GSAC) opened the first set 12-0, and despite a struggle in the third set, the Sunbirds closed out Westmont (9-16, 3-11 GSAC) well to win 25-5, 25-14, 25-17.
Fabiana Leomil got the Sunbirds started with an 12-0 run, which included 3 aces. The Sunbirds walked away with the first set 25-5. The second set went just as well, keeping the Warriors to 5 kills and 9 errors for a negative hitting percentage. Westmont ended the night with a -0.056 hitting percentage on the match. The third set was more competitive than the other two. Westmont managed to keep the set tight throughout. The set was tied 15-15, but the Sunbirds closed as well as the started, going on a 10-2 run to win the match.
Coach Dennis Janzen commented, “It was great to see the entire team contribute to the win. We started well and finished well.”
Thais Julio led the Sunbirds with 10 kills, followed closely by Julie De Jager with 9 kills. Leomil ended the night with 6 kills, 4 digs and 4 aces. #Tiffany Marinos# finished with 8 digs to lead Fresno Pacific.
The Sunbirds will travel to Bakersfield on Wednesday, October 29 to take on Cal State Bakersfield. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
