RIVERSIDE, Calif. – #1 Fresno Pacific (20-0, 12-0 GSAC) gets another sweep, this time on the road against #3 Cal Baptist. The Sunbirds win 25-19, 25-20, and 25-13, keeping the Lancers in negative hitting percentage in the final set.
The two teams played evenly; both teams had 10 blocks, 17 errors and 97 attempts, but the Sunbirds held Cal Baptist to only 25 kills for the match.
Thais Julio and Keke Wang led the Sunbirds with double-digit kills and both had the team's best hitting percentages; Julio had 13 kills, hitting 0.588, and Wang came up with 12 kills, hitting 0.500. Wang also had one assist, one ace and a team high 4 solo blocks.
Fabiana Leomil led defensively with 14 digs, followed by Shu Liu with 10 digs. Liu also contributed 40 of the teams 43 assists.
“Another great team effort,” Coach Dennis commented, “people really stepped up when sets were tight.” Every set was close through the first 10 points, but every set the Sunbirds managed to pull out a 4-0 or 5-0 run. The final set ended in a Fresno Pacific 5-0 run to win 25-13.
The Master's College will be the Sunbirds next opponent later next week. Master's is one of only three teams to win a set from Fresno Pacific this season. The Sunbirds will travel to Santa Clarita to continue their undefeated season. The match will be on Thursday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m.
