Sunbirds lose 6-14 to Lancers

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (8-13) was able to keep it a close game for three quarter, but after a 1-5 fourth quarter the Sunbirds lose 14-6 to Cal Baptist.  The game got out of hand after several Fresno Pacific started fouled out in the fourth.

Luke MacAlpine led the Sunbirds with 2 goals; Gabe Calderon, Milorad Pavlovic, Jake Brotsis and Tim Kahn all put in a goal apiece as well.  #Caleb Goings and Riley Warner# shared time bringing in 5 and 8 saves, respectively.

The first half the Sunbirds let the Lancers jump out in front, but did a good job hanging in within four points.  Things began to look good in the third when the Sunbirds went goal for goal with the Lancers, but in the fourth Cal Baptist went on a 5-0 run to open up their lead to nine goals.  In the fourth, Sunbirds' starters MacAlpine, Pavlovic and Kahn all received their third ejection fouls to foul out of the game.

Coach Brian Suhovy commented, “We played really well to stay within four goals most of the game to a team that only lost by one to a top-ten team last week.”  Cal Baptist, who are ranked in the top 20 nationally within all divisions, lost by one to UC Irvine earlier last week.  Coach Suhovy continued, “Luke [MacAlpine] and Gabe [Calderon] came up big, and Riley [Warner] had some great saves in the fourth with a couple one-on-nobodies.  I was really happy with how they played.”

Next weekend the Sunbirds will head up to Merced for a one day tournament on Saturday, October 25.
