Brett Gillen

Brett Gillen returns to FPU, where he was an assistant coach for three years, to serve under first-year head coach Kelly Winter. In his first stint with the Sunbirds, he helped coach FPU to three consecutive GSAC titles and two NAIA National titles.

Brett has been a lifetime contributor to the game of volleyball. He got started with the Central California Boys Club, where he spent six years playing and learning the game. He then went on to play for two USA Junior Olympic teams. In 2002 he helped guide the 17-year-old USA team to a third place finish and made the 18-year-old USA team the following summer.

Gillen started on varsity three consecutive years for Buchanan High School and guided the Bears to a 2003 Valley Championship. He would go on to graduate from BHS in the spring of 2004.

He went on to play volleyball at Fresno State, where he earned a degree in History.

Gillen first started coaching under Kelly Winter in 2005 as an assistant at Clovis East High School. He also joined the Central California Girls Volleyball Club as an assistant in 2005 and has continued to help lead the club. In 2006 Gillen assisted with the 17 Gold team that took third in the American Division at the USA Junior Olympics.
