Personal - Joel is from Los Banos, CA...He has three siblings...He enjoys playing the guitar, reading and hanging out with friends...He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes...His home church is Calvary Baptist Church...Joel is an English major.

Prior to FPU - Joel is a graduate of Los Banos High School...His swim coach was Eric Popish...He was named Most Valuable Freshman, was MVP for three years, and earned two Central California Conference titles.

As a Sophomore (2008) - Joel was part of the 2008 men's team that took Runner-Up at the NAIA Swimming and Diving Championship...He was on the team that won the 400 Freestyle Relay...He contributed 79 total points at the National Championship in both team and individual events...He was named First Team All-American.

As a Junior: Joel was a part of the 2010 NAIA national championship men’s team…At Nationals, he totaled 73 points in individual and team events…Joel was a national champion, winning, along with his teammates, the 400 medley relay…Joel was also a member of the third place 200 freestyle relay team and finished 16th in the 50 freestyle.
