Brian Sharar was named the 5th head coach in the history of the Fresno Pacific Swim & Dive programs on September 12, 2022.
“FPU is fortunate to have hired a great local talent in Coach Sharar,” Interim athletic director Dale Scully said of Sharar. “Brian is unwaveringly dedicated to the Central Valley and comes to us with an extremely impressive coaching resumé, including time at the NCAA Division I level. FPU feels like our swim and dive program is being placed in great hands and the opportunities for success are limitless.”
Sharar comes to FPU after 15 years as the Director of Sport for Swimming at Clovis East High School.
“This is a great opportunity to return to my collegiate coaching roots,” Sharar said. “What’s even better is that it’s in an excellent Christian environment. I’ve enjoyed coaching high school and club, but it was time for a change, and this is such a great change.”
With over 35 years of directing swimming programs at both the collegiate and high school levels, Sharar brings extensive and varied experience to the FPU
campus.
Prior to his time in Clovis, Sharar led the University of Toledo’s swim programs for nine years and served as an assistant at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He also led the Western Illinois programs for five seasons.
“Brian’s wealth of experience, buttressed by his infectious energy and passion for swim and dive, will provide FPU with an amazing leader ready to take our program to the next level,” Scully added.
Throughout his time in Clovis, Sharar has also served as the Senior Elite Coach for Clovis Swim Club.
Sharar inherits an FPU roster filled with experience.
“I could not be more thrilled with the team we have,” Sharar said. “Our goal is to move back to the top of the top ten in the NCAA and to the top of the conference. But our first priority is to have fun. If we have fun, everything else will take care of itself.”
Sharar begins his duties coaching and recruiting immediately.
