Peralta Piles Up Honors in Record-Setting Week

Peralta Collects Player of the Week, 1,000 Career Point, and PacWest Best in Assists

LONG BEACH, Calif. - As Fresno Pacific men's basketball surged to three straight conference victories, Isaac Peralta emerged at the center of it all. The senior point guard was named PacWest Player of the Week after reaching his 1,000 career point and leaving his mark on the PacWest assist records, making him the first Sunbird to receive conference honors this season.

Earlier in the season, Peralta was named to the PacWest Preseason watch list after his incredible performance during his junior year. In the conference opener against Cal State East Bay, he offensively led the team with 15 points and three assists, going 6-9 in field goals and making 3 of 4 shots from the line. A mid-season injury slowed down his progress, but the returning Sunbird didn't let that stop him.

At the start of the week, Peralta was efficient in the match against Hawaii Hilo. He collected a career-best and PacWest best 11 assists by the end of the game. On top of that incredible milestone, the senior from Orange County collected 14 points after thirty-two minutes worth of play, going 10 for 12 at the line.

In the closely contested match against Westmont, Peralta offensively led the team with 12 points and recorded five assists, contributing significantly from the free-throw line by converting six of seven attempts. He scored his 1,000th career point just before the half, sending everyone in the stands to their feet. With a minute remaining in the match, Peralta scored on a fast break layup, which made it 66-62 before he took care of multiple free throws to secure the victory for FPU.

As a four-year Sunbird, Peralta became the fourth player to score 1K points in the NCAA era — joining Aamondae Coleman, Adrian Antunez, and Nate Kendricks.

The Orange County native currently leads the team in several categories, including assists (41), free throws (39), and steals (14). In conference, Peralta is ranked first in assists despite having played in the least amount of games as the other players listed. In other categories, he is eleventh in free throw percentage (.765) and steals.

FPU men's basketball is 5-8 overall and 4-3 in conference competition. The Sunbirds are currently sixth in the PacWest conference standings.

NEXT UP: The 'Birds are back at home this Tuesday, January 13 against Azusa Pacific at 7:15 pm. Come cheer on your Sunbirds at the Special Events Center!
