FRESNO, Calif. — In the second match of the week, the Lady 'Birds rallied against the Warriors, but ultimately, fell to Westmont College 62-49 at the Special Events Center.
The game opened with the Sunbirds struggling to find their rhythm, as Westmont quickly established a 14–0 lead by 4:54, fueled by efficient scoring in the paint. Soon after, the 'Birds responded with a critical 5-point burst initiated by
Sienna Evans' layup at 3:59, narrowing the gap. Despite their efforts, they trailed 20–12 at the end of the first quarter.
They made a critical push in the second quarter with Evans sinking a layup at 9:20 and later hitting a 3-pointer at 4:42, assisted by
Mason Long, to keep the contest close. Westmont managed to maintain a slight edge, thanks to strong offensive rebounds and scoring. After a brilliant effort by the Lady 'Birds, Fresno Pacific ended the quarter, 33–24.
The Sunbirds narrowed the gap early in the third quarter with Evans contributing crucially, hitting a three-pointer at 7:05, assisted by
Nina Wisniewski, bringing the score to 38–34. The team's efforts in the paint resulted in eight points, with
Grace Brown and
Alexa Perryman adding layups to keep the team competitive. Despite these efforts, Westmont managed to maintain a slight edge, ending the quarter ahead at 51–39.
Evans sparked a late push in the fourth quarter with two consecutive layups, each followed by a successful free throw, narrowing the deficit against Westmont. Despite several turnovers, Perryman's defensive rebound and steal highlighted a resilient effort. Westmont maintained a slim edge throughout, ultimately outscoring the Sunbirds 11-10 in the fourth quarter. The game concluded with Westmont securing a narrow victory, 62-49.
Evans led the game with 19 points, converting 7 of 14 field goals, including three from beyond the arc, and collected six rebounds. Wisniewski contributed 13 points, making 4 of 6 shots from the field and sinking 5 of 7 free throws. Perryman recorded two steals and pulled down four defensive rebounds.
Kira Wilmurt added four points and one assist, going 2 for 2 from the free-throw line.
