FRESNO, Calif. - Home sweet home! After being on the road for the last four matches, the No. 13 'Birds returned to the Special Events Center to capture their 19th consecutive win and 12th sweep against the visiting Dominican Penguins.
The No. 13 'Birds opened up the match with an impressive lead over the Penguins. Fresno Pacific quickly captured the lead and didn't look back, stopping all of Dominican's attempts to advance the score. Senior middle
Geneva Elliott buried a ball right where the setter was supposed to be, making it 20-12.
Makayla Smith followed with an ace that forced a penguin timeout. Coming out of the timeout,
Cambria Waites sent one down the line, showing off her strength and speed. Weiss stretched to give a worthy set to Elliott who outjumped the block and sent another ball straight down for FPU. The Sunbirds concluded the first set 25-12.
Elliott brought the energy to the second set with a quick kill and an overpass kill, landing right at the blockers feet.
Sydney Hancock went to the serving line and collected two aces for the Sunbirds. Middle

Mikayla Weiss got a great block, bumping the score 9-4.
Sydney Hancock entered the front row and a great tip over the block built more momentum. Despite a block by the Penguins, Hancock responded with another kill down the line and Waites sent a deep shot to make it 13-6. A few points later, Waites stopped a Penguin athlete in their tracks with a impressive swing from the back row. Entering the match,
Rachel Plantinga forced a ball through the block to make it 20-9. Freshman
Lola Highstreet made her debut on the court and got her first kill as a Sunbird on an overpass, then had a impressive block on the right side with Hancock. Despite a brief comeback made by Dominican, Fresno Pacific claimed the second set 25-16.
Within the first twelve points of the third set, Fresno Pacific was at a .500 hitting percentage. Plantinga was a force to reckon with in the backrow while Weiss and Aguayo teamed up at the net, gaining an eight-point lead. With Waites on the serving line, the Sunbirds built an significant gap between them and the Penguins. Highstreet, returning to the front row, utilized a great set from Weiss on a slide to boost the score 22-7. Weiss had an incredible performance against Dominican, hitting another double-double (25 assists and 10 digs) on the season.
Using Dominican's errors against them, the No. 13 'Birds cruised through the final set, ending the match with a final score of 25-8. It marked the lowest scoring set of the season for the Sunbirds.
The ranked 'Birds are officially 19-0 overall and 7-0 in the PacWest. FPU is neck and neck with No. 5 Point Loma in the battle for the PacWest's top spot, with the Sea Lions boasting an 18-2 record and a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play.
