Lewis Scores 1,000th Career Point in FPU's Final Game of the Season

FRESNO, Calif.- Avery Lewis scored his 1,000th career point in his final collegiate game as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (7-20 overall, 5-15 PacWest) fell 70-58 to the Azusa Pacific Cougars (11-16 overall, 10-10 PacWest) closing the season Saturday afternoon in the Special Events Center.

Lewis' bucket came in the final five minutes to cap a special career in which he concluded with his graduate season in Fresno.

The Sunbirds honored both of their graduate students before the game with Lewis and Jonah Geron finishing their collegiate basketball careers in Fresno.

FPU built a 12-6 lead in the first seven minutes, but Azusa scored the next seven points and would never trail again while building a nine-point lead before the half.

The Sunbirds fell behind by as much as fourteen in the second half before chopping the difference down to five with twelve minutes to play.

Azusa made one more run to stretch their advantage out to seventeen in the next five minutes and put the game out of reach.

FPU received fifteen points from Isaac Peralta who added eight rebounds and 4 steals.

Lewis and Gabe Quiette each scored eight points for FPU.

Saturday's game concludes the 2023-2024 season for the Sunbirds.
