BILLINGS, Montana.- It was a tough morning for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds as they placed 16th in the NCAA DII West Region Championships at Amend Park.
"Today was a real disappointment for our men's squad," remarked head coach
Ray Winter.
"In spite of some strong veterans being injured, we have enough depth and talent to still be a top 5 or 6 team this year."
"So for the coaches and the men, we will have to go look in the mirror for a while and make some decisive commitments to excellence moving forward."
Freshman
Devin Ibarra was the top finisher for the Sunbirds, coming in 60th, with a time of 32:19.13.
"A big congratulations to freshman
Devin Ibarra for being our #1 runner in his first career 10k," said Winter.
"As the 4th freshman across the line in the whole region, he has definitely adjusted to the increase in distance better than most and has a very bright future."
Jansen Gillig, Abelsolm Teffra, and Alesandro Escarzaga came in next finishing 95th, 103rd, and 129th respectively.
Winter finished by saying "
Jansen Gillig has been a solid leading presence for us all season, and pulled the rest of the team across the line today."\
