FRESNO, Calif.- Still reeling from a marathon win two days prior, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (5-14 overall, 4-7 PacWest) ran out of gas in the second half of a 62-50 loss to the Biola Eagles (13-7 overall, 8-4 PacWest) Saturday night at the Special Events Center.
The 'Birds came out impressively, holding Biola to 1-20 from the field at the start of the game.
But despite building a 14-6 lead through the first 15 minutes, FPU was unable to capitalize enough to put the game out of reach.
Biola closed the first quarter by taking a quick lead before FPU regained a 20-19 advantage at the half.
FPU held Biola to just 16% from the field and only 1-9 on threes with over half of the Eagles' points coming thanks to a 10-10 stretch at the free-throw line.
Th pace quickened in the second half as Biola found its shot and went 58% from the field in the second half.
Biola's Casey Cappo, who was just 1-6 from the field in the first, hit 7 of 9 to start the second half and give Biola the lead.
The Sunbirds received big efforts from
Gabriel Quiette and
Isaac Peralta but FPU just didn't have enough answers for Biola.
The Eagles surged with their biggest run in the final nine minutes of the game, outscoring the Sunbirds 29-11 to snap FPU's four game win streak.
Peralta's 15 points led the way for FPU, while Quiette added 11.
The Sunbirds will get a break from conference play on Wednesday, hosting UC Santa Cruz at 5:00pm in the Special Events Center.
