Early Offense Matched in Non-Conference Loss to ArtU

OAKLAND, Calif.-Despite a two-run first inning, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (4-4 overall) saw every run scoring frame countered in a 10-4 non-conference loss to the Academy of Art Urban Knights (1-3 overall) Monday night at Laney College.

Fresno Pacific scored first and received a multi-RBI game from Peyton McNair but saw the Academy of Art put up a few crooked numbers to take the lone weekday matchup.

The Sunbirds put the first four runners of the game on base, with McNair's RBI single into right field opening the scoring. Isaac Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch and Fresno Pacific had a 2-0 lead after just a half inning.

Academy of Art immediately responded with a three-run homer and an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to put the Sunbirds in a 4-2 deficit.

McNair delivered another RBI single in the top of the third to trim the difference down to one but Art responded with an two-run double in the bottom half of that inning as well.

In the fourth, Trent Greene produced an RBI groundout but Art's response was legging out a groundout to prevent a double play and regain the run in the bottom of the inning.

The Urban Knights tacked on three more runs in the bottom of 7th to extend their lead to 10-4.

FPU started the 9th with Isaiah Clark reaching after being hit by a pitch.

Fresno Pacific continues its road trip with a big three-game series at Sonoma State on Friday and Saturday.
