Big Nights from Alvarez, Pisik Help ‘Birds to Lopsided Win

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team picked up another PacWest Conference victory on Saturday, defeating Notre Dame de Namur 80-53 at the Special Events Center. The Sunbirds improved to 8-3 in league play behind big nights from Cassie Pisik and Bree Alvarez.  
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Pisik started the scoring with an elbow jumper to get the Sunbird offense going, and the Blue and Orange jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first ten minutes.
• FPU opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run, but the Argos went to a timeout and responded with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the deficit back to six.
• A Pisik triple was the final offense of the first half, and the Sunbirds were in front by eight at the intermission.
• The Sunbirds put their foot on the gas in the second half, taking a 19-point lead in the third quarter before pushing it to as many as 29 in the fourth.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Pisik finished with a game-high 22 points, while Alvarez knocked down 6-of-13 behind the arc to finish on her heels with 20.  
• Jessica Malazarte poured in 12 points of her own, and Ashley Cross wrapped up her night with nine points, seven boards and six assists.  
• NDNU's Anaya Rodisha turned in a team-high 13 points, while Dominique Colhno was the only other was the only other Argo in double-figures.  
• The Sunbirds committed 16 turnovers but forced 22, and the home team controlled the battle of the boards by a tally of 43-27.
• FPU shot 45% from the floor for the game, including a 10-27 effort from three-point range.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Alvarez' six threes were the second-most of any Sunbird this year and the most since Malazarte hit seven in the season opener.
• FPU is 8-2 at home, marking the best 10-game home start in program history.
