Sunbirds Downed by Seawolves in Final Non-Conference Match

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.  – The Fresno Pacific men's soccer team fell on Tuesday night, dropping a road match against Sonoma State by a final of 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Seawolves started the scoring in the game's 11th minute before scoring two goals in 12 seconds 26 minutes later.
• Fresno Pacific found the scoreboard ten minutes into the second half, but Sonoma State was able to sit on the lead for the duration of the match.
 
SCORING:
• (10:40) Luis Mendoza fired from the top of the box to the upper right corner to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead.
• (37:11) After dribbling around a pair of FPU defenders, Kyle Owings connected from ten feet out in a one-on-one with keeper Patrick Timmer.
• (37:23) Sebastian Santos caught the Sunbirds off guard with a steal and added the third score of the contest.
• (55:48) After a deflected shot, Jose Segura provided the lone score of the night for the Blue and Orange.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Sonoma State outshot their guests 14-13 while claiming a 7-to-5 edge in shots on goal.
• Timmer and Seawolf counterpart Mitch North each tallied four saves.
• Both teams took four corner kicks, but 18 of the game's 29 fouls were credited to Fresno Pacific.  
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Segura's goal was his first of the year, and he becomes the fourth Sunbird to find the back of the net this season.
• Thursday marked Sonoma State's first home win in three chances this fall.
 
UP NEXT:
• The Sunbirds open PacWest Conference play at home on Thursday night against Dominican. Opening whistle from Ramirez Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
