FPU Downed as Sea Lions Earn Eighth Straight Win

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University women's basketball team never got in a true rhythm on Monday night, falling 82-44 on the road against Point Loma.

"We failed to execute a game plan that we practiced, watched and talked extensively about, and that resulted in a rough night for us," head coach Tim Beauregard said. "It is a good lesson for our team that we must bring a level of focused intensity to every game. It is not enough to know the game plan, but we must passionately work to implement it."

The Sea Lions opened the game on a 12-0 run before Ashley Cross collected a defensive rebound and turned it into two points at the other end. Megan Lee came off the bench to give the Sunbirds eight points in the first half, but PLNU carried a 41-16 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.

Point Loma only picked up steam in the second half, shooting better than 56% percent from the floor and outrebounding their guests 24-13. Cross went for seven points and four rebounds in the final 20 minutes, leading the Blue and Orange in both categories in that stretch.

Lee finished as Fresno Pacific's leading scorer, tallying 12 points on a 4-of-7 shooting effort, while Cross wrapped up her night with nine points and a team-high six rebounds. For the Sea Lions, four players scored in double-figures, including a game-best 19 points from Alex Brunk.

The Sunbirds failed to win the battle of turnovers for the first time in five games, though they were able to force as many as they committed. FPU's bench was able to go for 26 points on Monday, though the team's seven steals are the fewest total since Nov. 22 against Chico State.

Fresno Pacific is set to return to action with the first of two home games this week coming on Wednesday evening against Hawai'i Pacific. Tipoff from the Special Events Center is slated for 5:30 p.m.

"We have a day to regroup and get back on track because Hawai'i Pacific is a very disciplined and talented team," Beauregard said. "We embrace the grind and trust the process."
