OAKLAND, Calif. – Madison Higgins' layup with six seconds left proved to be the game-winner as Fresno Pacific won its second straight PacWest match, 76-74, at Holy Names Monday night.
Bobby Barnes scored 20 points and
Trevon Clayton added 12 points and 14 rebounds to power the Sunbirds over the Hawks in a tightly contested game at Tobin Gymnasium.
FPU improves to 9-16 overall and 5-12 in the PacWest with the victory, while HNU falls to 3-21 on the year and 1-15 in league play.
The Sunbirds finished 55% from the floor on the night and held the Hawks to a mere 38% shooting. FPU outscored HNU 46-28 in the paint and capitalized on 23 free-throw attempts with 16 makes.
Higgins finished with 12 points in the win, while

FPU led by as many as eight in the first half and never trailed in the final period. The Hawks used a 7-0 run in the final two minutes to tie the game at 74 with eight seconds remaining before Higgins grabbed his own miss and scored with six seconds left. HNU couldn't connect on a jumper as the buzzer sounded to seal the win for FPU.
"I'm very proud of the effort by the guys," said head coach
Shane Rinner. "It was HNU's senior night, so there was a lot of excitement in the building. Trevon did another great job on the boards and Madison made a big play down the stretch to get the win. We have the top-three teams in the conference to finish the year and the guys are looking forward to the challenge."
Joshua Crum scored a game-high 30 points off the bench for Holy Names.
The Sunbirds are back home this Saturday, hosting Dixie State at 4:30 pm for the annual Play 4 Kay Breast Cancer Awareness game.
