FPU Suffers Setback to Humboldt State, 90-78

ARCATA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific fell to Humboldt State, 90-78, Monday in non-conference action at Lumberjack Arena. Spencer Krannitz scored 18 points and Roger Paul added 17 in the setback for the Sunbirds.

FPU falls to 5-3 overall on the season, while HSU, who entered with its best start to a season since the 2010-11 season, improves to 8-1 overall. The 'Jacks have earned all eight wins at home this season.

The Sunbirds came out hot offensively and led 12-4 early after a three from Madison Higgins. FPU would run its lead to 11, its largest of the night, with 14:36 to play in the first half following a three from Andreas Bigum. The 'Jacks, however, battled back to take a 46-43 lead into halftime.

FPU trailed 72-67 with nine minutes to play before an 8-2 run by HSU extended the deficit to 11, 80-69. The Sunbirds fought back and cut the lead to five with a jumper from Higgins with 3:15 left, but wouldn't come any closer down the stretch as the 'Jacks closed out the win.

Krannitz scored his team-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Paul made 3-of-8 shots and 11-of-11 free throws. Krannitz added four rebounds. Oliver Herting chipped in 10 points and two assists, while Bigum totaled nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

HSU's Rakim Brown recorded a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, both of which were game-highs.

The Sunbirds shot 45 percent from the floor, but were held to 23 percent from long range. HSU out-rebounded FPU 37-31 and forced 23 turnovers, which turned into 23 points.

"You can't turn the ball over 23 times and win," said head coach Tim Kisner. "I thought our guys competed and were prepared to play. We will get back to work and continue to improve as we head into two road conference games this weekend."

FPU jumps back into PacWest play on Thursday against Holy Names at 7:30 p.m.
