High-powered offense leads to second straight sweep

Box Score

The #21-ranked Sunbirds continued their winning ways at home, behind 14 kills from Rupia Inck in a straight-set win over Chaminade (25-16, 25-17, 25-16). Inck, Morghan Williams and Rebecca Waller all hit over .400 for the match, and the Sunbirds hit .260 as a team in one of their best all-around performances of the season.

"It has given us a ton of energy and a ton of confidence playing here at home," said head coach Kelly Winter. "It has been really great to get that confidence back and play with such efficiency. We are playing a lot more freely and it's been so much fun watching the team play these last couple matches."

After struggling the first part of the season, the Sunbirds offense has come alive so far on the homestand. Inck finished with a match high 14 kills (.429) while hitting just two errors. Waller had eight kills (.400) and Williams finished the night with seven kills (.545) in the middle for FPU who held a significant size advantage on the front line. That advantage was evident as the Sunbirds out-blocked the Silverswords 8-3, including two straight blocks by Waller and Inck to close out the match.

Perhaps even more impressive than the offensive showing was the defensive output by FPU. For the first time this season a Sunbird opponent failed to hit over .100. The Silverswords were only able to muster a .018 attack percentage on 113 attacks and were forced into 26 attack errors by the Fresno Pacific defense.

"Our defense really stepped it up. They (Chaminade) couldn't put a ball away," said Winter. "We knew exactly where they were going, our blockers did a really nice job executing the game plan and defensively we were picking up everything that was outside of the block."

Hannah Butler, who leads the PacWest in digs per set, finished the night with 19 and freshman Bissie DenHartog nearly notched her seventh double-double of the season with eight digs and 24 assists in the three-set match.

Kim Spring led the Silverswords offensively with 13 kills (.139); Crystal Powell was next highest with five kills (.000). Libero Brenda Walker had 12 digs and the duo of Daniella Montoya and Valentina Bevilacqua had 12 and 13 assists.

Fresno Pacific will have a quick turnaround when they face Hawaii Pacific tomorrow. The Sea Warriors have one of the biggest wins on their resume of any PacWest team after a 3-2 win over No. 6 BYU-Hawaii last week. HPU fell in five sets however yesterday at Academy of Art. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. in the FPU Events Center.
