Oakland, Calif. - #14 Fresno Pacific swept Holy Names for the third time this season to improve to 17-1, 9-0 in PacWest play. The Sunbirds (17-1, 9-0 PacWest) rebounded from a lackluster performance in their last match, a five-set win over Academy of Art, to defeat the Hawks 25-22, 25-18, 25-22.
The Hawks had a three-match win streak snapped and fell to 10-11 overall, 7-3 in PacWest play.
Rupia Inck led FPU with 13 kills while
Karah Mitchell added 10.
Emily Carroll had a season-high 17 digs to go with 17 assists and
Morghan Williams had a .625 attack percentage on five kills with no errors and three blocks.
Erica Adachi led the team with 18 assists and had 12 digs.
"The girls came out really focused tonight," said head coach
Kelly Winter. "There's a lot of things we've been working on since last week's match with Academy of Art and it was good to see the girls start to implement those things. We sided-out really well, didn't get stuck in rotation and when we had opportunities to score we capitalized."
FPU held the Hawks to just .058 hitting on the night as Carroll led the defense with
Hannah Butler contributing 14 digs as well.
"Emily was all over the court tonight," said Winter. "She was moving well and reading the ball very well."
The Sunbirds controlled all three sets, particularly set two where they jumped out to an 11-2 lead and would hold HNU to a negative attack percentage.
The Sunbirds are back home this Friday as they take on Dominican at 7 pm. FPU swept the Penguins 3-0 the first time the teams met in San Rafael. The Penguins are 6-12, 4-6 in the PacWest, on the year.
