#15 Fresno Pacific held visiting Notre Dame de Namur to an .009 attack percentage on Thursday night as the Sunbirds (15-1, 7-0 PacWest) won their 14th straight match. FPU won in straight sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-20. The Argonauts fell to 1-16, 0-8 in the PacWest.
The Sunbirds used a balanced offensive attack on the night with Rupia Inck totaling eight kills while Kathleen Anderson and Lyndsie Petersen (.438 hitting percentage) added seven apiece in the victory. Karah Mitchell and Morghan Williams chipped in with five, while Jessie Alcorn put down four kills for FPU. Erica Adachi and Emily Carroll combined for 37 assists facilitating the team effort on offense.
FPU was impressive on offense the first set, outhitting the Argonauts .324 to .038 in the 25-14 win. With the set tied 7-7 early, the Sunbirds used a 13-2 run to pull away from NDNU going up 20-9. The combination of Mitchell, who had five kills in the set, and Williams, who totaled four, finished off the set victory for FPU.
With the score tied 10-10 in the second set, FPU ran off a 9-0 run to put the score at 19-10. The Sunbirds seemed poised to finish off the set before the Argonauts stormed back to pull within three at 21-18. Williams followed with a solo block to stop the NDNU run, inspiring two more blocks from the combination of Anderson, Amy Siemens and Alcorn setting up the final FPU kill to win the set 25-19.
Five kills from Petersen highlighted the final set, leading FPU to the 25-20 victory. With NDNU down 22-20, Petersen came through with a kill to put a dagger in the Argonauts leading to the final kill by Anderson for the straight set victory.
“I felt like we were in control of the whole match despite the fact we weren't executing the way we would have liked, but we did a nice job of taking care of business when it came down to it,” said head coach Kelly Winter. “Lyndsie played really well tonight, she does a really nice job of putting away a ball when we need it and came up big for us tonight.”
Hannah Butler led the defensive effort for the Sunbirds, totaling 18 digs while Inck and Adachi narrowly missed recording double-doubles with nine digs apiece.
Jennifer Jasper led all players with 10 kills for NDNU in the loss.
There is no required admission fee for tickets on Saturday, as all funds will be donated to the “Make A Wish” foundation when the Sunbirds take on Academy of Art at 7 in the Special Events Center.
