Sunbirds can't break through against #12 Mustangs

Box Score

Fresno Pacific struggled offensively against one of the top defenses in the NAIA on Tuesday night as #12 The Master's defeated the Sunbirds 3-1 at Ramirez Field.

FPU (3-5-1, 1-1) became just the third team this season to score off the Mustangs (9-0-1, 2-0) when Jessica Pereschica found the net in the 75th minute, but it was not enough to overcome a 3-0 deficit.

The Mustangs scored just 13 minutes in when midfielder Andie Reyes perfectly placed a ball past FPU defenders and hit Emily Bruton in stride, who fniished a one-on-one opportunity with Sunbird goalie Sarah King.

TMC would tack on another goal just five minutes later, as a Reyes corner kick was headed in by Bobbie Roberts for the 2-0 Mustang lead. Bruton would add another goal in the second half on a pass from Alissa Adkins.

FPU finally got on the board as Pereschica athletically shook off a couple defenders and drove a hard shot home to the left side of the net. Jessica Castillo set up the play for the assist.

The Sunbirds face #25 Concordia on Saturday on noon.
