Lloyd Gardner, a native of Shafter, California, graduated from Shafter High School in 1962. He enrolled at Fresno Pacific College in the fall of 1962. He played for the (then) Vikings during the school’s transition from junior college to a fully accredited four-year year institution and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) member.

In the final two seasons of junior college competition (1962-63 and 1963-64), Lloyd was named to the Northern California Christian College Conference Team while helping the (then) Vikings to a pair of N4C and Golden State Athletic Association California State basketball championships. As a senior in 1965-66, he was named the team’s most valuable player when he averaged 19.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.

In all, he appeared in 100 games and averaged 16.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest. He majored in history and graduated in 1966, then completed a master’s degree at the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary in 1969. He is a devoted husband and father and has served as minister at various churches in the Sierra Foothills. In addition to his many years of service to the Church, he has served as a primary grades and middle school teacher since 1971.
