As a Junior (2017) - set a season best at the Oxy Invite, where he finished the 800m with a time of 1:56.13….raced well at the Hornet Invitational, recording a time of 51.54 in the 400m…. contributed to a Sunbird sweep of the men’s relays at the Westmont Sunshine Open, where he raced as a member of the 4x800m team that won with a time of 7:54.63.

Prior to FPU - Spent three years on the varsity track & field team at Kingsburg High School under coach Jason Crass....recipient of the Viking Award, named most improved twice, earned academic all-league honors....fastest high school times included 23.45 in the 200 and 50.71 in the 400....was member of back-to-back Valley championship teams....also played basketball and football....was a second team all-league selection in football...named the Rafer Johnson athlete of the year.

Personal - Parents are Martin and Mavis Zavala.....has two siblings, Jacob and Julissa....chose FPU for the community, track program and proximity to home....person he admires most is his dad....favorite food is Italian....favorite movies/shows are Fury and Stand By Me....favorite book is Catcher in the Rye....favorite artist is Drake....favorite teams are the Raiders, A's, Lakers and Sharks....favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant....person he'd most like to meet is Donald Glover.....friend on another team is Tyler Steele of Vanguard....hobbies include sports and poetry....Josh is a criminal justice major with plans to teach, coach and travel.
